Keeping electrical safety in check

Keeping electrical safety in check

Avoid a shock this Christmas

12th December 2018

As December speeds past and our attention turns to preparing the perfect Christmas dinner, at MS Electrical we thought we’d share our top tips for ensuring that your kitchen and those who frequent it remain safe this festive period. Some are obvious, and probably commonly understood, but there are a several useful ideas which may not be quite so obvious.

  1. Dry your hands thoroughly before using any switch or electrical appliance
  2. If your appliance has a flexible cable, don’t wrap it around the appliance immediately after use
  3. Carry out a visual check of all flexible cables – along with everyday appliances – on a regular basis
  4. However tempting it is to consume toast while it’s still warm, never remove toast from a toaster with a metal implement
  5. Cast your eye over your oven and grill to ensure that there hasn’t been a build-up of fat and grease and remove it if needed
  6. Avoid overloading any sockets or extension cables as that can represent a significant fire risk through overheating
  7. Keep the top of your microwave clear to ensure that it enjoys sufficient ventilation
  8. Plan to defrost your fridge and freezer at least once a year to keep both them in good working order

These simple tips should help to ensure that you enjoy a safe and stress-free Christmas in the kitchen.

MS Electrical Services offer PAT testing and fixed wire testing in Cambridge, so please contact us to discuss how we can keep your electrical safety in check.
